Effects of an amphipathic [alpha]-helical peptide on lateral pressure and water penetration in phosphatidylcholine and monoolein mixed membranes
Article Abstract:
Fluorescence measurements and {(31 super)]P NMR} are used to investigate physicochemical properties of mixed membranes of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylcholine (POPC) and a nonlamellar-forming lipid, 1-monoolein (MO) and the effects of an amphipathic [alpha]-helical peptide, 18A (DWLKAFYDK VAEKLKEAF), on the membranes. It is suggested that 18A induces a positive curvature strain and lowers the lateral pressure and water penetration.

Cation-pie interactions stabilize the structure of the antimicrobial peptide indolicidin near membranes: Molecular dynamics simulations
Article Abstract:
Cation-pi interactions stabilize the structure of IND in the dodecylphosphocholine (DPC) micelle and high persistent cation-pi interaction is observed between the indole ring of TRP11 and the guanidium group of ARG13. A simulation of the W11A mutant in a DPC micelle is carried out to confirm this importance of the TRP11-ARG13 cation-pi bond.

Role of secondary level chiral structure in the process of molecular recognition of ligand: study of model helical peptide
Article Abstract:
A theoretical study of the role of secondary level chiral structure of helical polypeptide in driving the interaction with an external ligand is presented. It is observed that two mirror image ligand molecules have favorable interactions at different mutual helix-ligand orientations.
